[Repost] President Qian Xuhong of East China Normal University Visits the Park for Research and Inspection

On February 6, President Qian Xuhong, an academician from East China Normal University, visited the East China Normal University Science and Technology Park for an inspection, accompanied by Director of the University Office, Pan Liang. Zhang Fan, Vice General Manager of the Technology Park Management Company, and several founders of park enterprises also participated in the inspection.

President Qian and his team visited Shanghai Newmai Electronics Technology Co., Ltd., Central Digital Culture (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Shanghai Huamin Environmental Technology Development Co., Ltd., and Shanghai Silais Information Consulting Co., Ltd., where they conducted on-site inspections and listened to reports from the founders of these companies. President Qian praised the entrepreneurial spirit of the business owners and highly commended the products developed by these enterprises. He also pointed out that business models need to break traditional thinking and increase the degree of industry cross-integration.

At the symposium, Zhang Fan, on behalf of the entire staff of the Science and Technology Park, warmly welcomed President Qian and provided a detailed introduction to the park’s development history, operational overview, innovation and entrepreneurship service system, and future plans.

After hearing the work report of the park, President Qian fully recognized and highly praised the “Professor Studio” platform of the park, offering valuable suggestions regarding the park’s functional positioning and operational model. He emphasized that the overall positioning of the park should distinguish it from other universities, highlighting the unique characteristics of East China Normal University. It should be both a science and technology park and a cultural park, using scientific and technological methods to express humanistic ideas and spirit, while effectively managing the relationship between culture, science, and education. One of the park’s key functions is to inspire the entrepreneurial spirit of teachers and students, igniting their passion for innovation. By promoting “innovation and entrepreneurship,” the park plays a vital role in enhancing school management and educational reform. President Qian also praised the park’s “Professor + Student + Enterprise” innovation and entrepreneurship model, which leverages mentors to guide students towards market-oriented applications, utilizing their strengths and forming a mutually beneficial community. He also emphasized that for the park to develop rapidly, it must be open to adopting external commercial models, resources, and funding, creating a business model suited to its operation and development, and enhancing the influence and social service capacity of its disciplines.

At the same time, President Qian expressed three hopes for the park’s development: First, the park should activate the innovation enthusiasm of teachers and students through multiple channels, encourage more faculty and students to gain entrepreneurial experience, and contribute to creating a good atmosphere for innovation and entrepreneurship at the university. Second, the park should integrate humanities, art, health, education, ecology, and technology, promoting the “Technology+” industry-academia-research model and system construction, to highlight its competitive advantage and build a science and technology park with unique characteristics of East China Normal University. Third, the park’s development should align with the university’s needs, converting the university’s dominant disciplines into leading industries, providing more innovative and entrepreneurial examples, supporting the university’s “Double First-Class” initiative and innovation and entrepreneurship activities.

President Qian’s special inspection reflects the university’s emphasis on and care for the work of the Science and Technology Park, providing a clear direction for the park’s development. The entire staff feels greatly encouraged and deeply aware of the significant responsibility. The Science and Technology Park will implement President Qian’s important instructions, focusing on “innovation and entrepreneurship” as its core, adhering to the value of knowledge serving society, deeply collaborating with the university’s advantageous disciplines, and building a science and technology park with East China Normal University’s distinctive features.
