Professor Zhang Ao, Vice President of the Precision Medicine Subcommittee, Visited Suzhou Newma for Inspection and Guidance

Recently, as the global pandemic continues to spread and de-globalization remains on the rise, the National Health Industry Enterprise Management Association’s Precision Medicine Branch Vice President, Professor Zhang Ao, visited Suzhou NewMag Analysis Instruments Co., Ltd. for an inspection and exchange on the morning of July 28. The Vice Secretary-General of the Precision Medicine Branch, Mr. Yang Peiqiang, Chairman of Suzhou NewMag, accompanied Professor Zhang during the visit and presented a report titled “How Enterprises Can ‘Survive Adversity’ and the Latest Developments in Company Products under the New Situation.”

Mr. Yang Peiqiang first introduced the challenges NewMag has faced due to the pandemic, such as shrinking domestic and international market demands and significant pressure on payments. However, NewMag has not succumbed to temporary difficulties, and the company has taken active measures by expanding into new markets and focusing on cost reduction to steer itself out of adversity. Subsequently, Mr. Yang also introduced the latest developments of NewMag’s small animal magnetic resonance imaging system in the life sciences field and shared practical application cases, including drug research. Professor Zhang expressed that NewMag’s small animal MRI system can significantly contribute to drug research and will yield more fruitful results in the future.

Accompanied by Mr. Yang Peiqiang, Professor Zhang then visited NewMag’s small animal MRI development results and gave high praise. Following the visit, both parties reached a preliminary agreement to collaborate on the establishment of the “Mouse Tumor Model MRI Application Platform” in partnership with the School of Pharmacy, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

As a key entity of the National Health Industry Enterprise Management Association’s Precision Medicine Branch, NewMag was the first in the country to develop a portable, compact small animal MRI system for the life sciences field. The equipment occupies a small area and requires minimal environmental adjustments. It can be placed in a standard animal barrier laboratory, enabling researchers to perform preclinical drug efficacy evaluations, tumor model tracking, and other tests with ease.

 
 

Professor Zhang Ao, PhD, Vice President of the Precision Medicine Branch, Leader of the Tumor Targeted Drug Group, Dean of the School of Pharmacy at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Distinguished Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, recipient of the National Natural Science Foundation’s “Outstanding Youth Fund,” the “Thousand Talents Program” from the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China, the “Key Innovation Team in Key Areas” from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the “Pujiang Talent Program” from Shanghai, and the Shanghai “Outstanding Discipline Leader” award. He has also received the “Hundred Talents Program” from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the “Zhu Li Yuehua Excellent Teacher” award, and the “Outstanding Mentor” award, among others.

Professor Zhang has long been dedicated to drug discovery research driven by innovations in drug chemistry. His main research areas include chemical biology and medicinal chemistry. To date, he has published over 170 papers in professional journals such as J Am Chem Soc, Angew Chem Int Ed, J Med Chem, and Chem Rev, with more than 2,000 SCI citations. He has contributed to 7 academic monographs and written 13 chapters. He has filed more than 60 patents worldwide, of which 16 have been granted, and he has completed 4 technology transfers. Two new drug candidates are undergoing preclinical studies, and two new drugs have received clinical trial approval and have entered Phase I trials. Professor Zhang has led more than 30 national and international research projects, including major national projects for the creation of new drugs, key and general projects from the National Natural Science Foundation, and frontier international cooperation projects from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
