From 13th to 16th May 2024, the 16th Annual Conference of the International Society for Porous Media (InterPore 2024), jointly organised by China University of Petroleum (East China) and the International Society for Porous Media (InterPore), was successfully held in Qingdao. Suzhou Niumag Analysis Instruments Co., Ltd. participated in the conference, presenting application solutions of low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technology in porous media.

InterPore 2024 is a premier international event in porous media research. Professors Jun Yao and Yongfei Yang chaired the organising committee, with full participation from the Oil & Gas Reservoir Flow Research Center. The conference focused on “Porous Media and Biology“, covering biological phenomena and applications in porous media such as living organs, plants, medical systems, soil, and oil & gas reservoirs. It attracted over 850 experts and researchers from around the world to discuss the latest advances in porous media research.
The opening ceremony was hosted by InterPore President Professor Karsten Thompson from Louisiana State University, with opening remarks delivered by Professor Jun Yao. Academicians Zhanghang Chen and Susumu Kitagawa, along with Professors Svetlana Mintova and Changying Zhao, presented plenary lectures on topics including reservoir simulation, soft porous crystals, adsorption properties of nanoscale zeolites, and heat transfer in porous media, highlighting the latest research achievements. Eight invited experts—Alex Hansen, Ivan Lunati, Lucia Mancini, Jan Nordbotten, Catherine A. Peters, Shuyu Sun, Xiaofan Yang, and TieJun (TJ) Zhang—shared insights on two-phase flow, thermodynamics, kinetics, imaging technologies, and numerical simulations in porous media. The conference featured 24 parallel sessions, over 400 academic presentations, and more than 230 posters, offering attendees a comprehensive overview of porous media research across energy, environmental, biological, agricultural, and materials science applications, providing a rich academic experience for all participants.

Opening remarks by Professor Jun Yao
During the multi-day conference, Niumag Analysis showcased its research achievements and products in porous media analysis. The team presented their large-bore NMR imaging analyzer and mid-size NMR imaging analyzer, which drew attention from experts and industry partners worldwide due to their exceptional performance and innovative design. Low-field NMR technology, as an innovative non-destructive testing method, accurately characterises key physical properties of porous media—such as porosity, pore size distribution, fluid saturation, and permeability—by measuring relaxation signals of hydrogen-containing fluids within pores. This technology not only enhances the precision and efficiency of porous media analysis but also opens new avenues for research and practical applications in related fields.

Niumag Analysis’ presence at the conference received high praise and recognition from attending experts. Many participants expressed strong interest in the company’s products and technologies. Niumag team members engaged in in-depth discussions with attendees, sharing successful applications of low-field NMR technology in porous media analysis.

Looking ahead, Niumag Analysis will continue to focus on research and innovation in low-field NMR technology for porous media, continuously launching more efficient and precise analytical instruments and solutions. We firmly believe that ongoing technological innovation and international collaboration will make a significant contribution to scientific research and industrial applications in the field of porous media.
