"Admiring Tonglu Mountain from Afar, Wading through the Spring River Up Close" – A Wonderful Review of the 2017 Niumag Analysis "Tonglu Tour"

On August 18-19, 2017, the employees of NiuMai Analytical Instruments spent a wonderful weekend in the beautiful Tonglu, Zhejiang! From a distance, Tonglu’s mountains look magnificent, and the spring river water is crystal clear. The stunning scenery makes it easy to lose yourself in the landscape. Let’s take a look back at this amazing “Exploring Tonglu” trip!

On the morning of August 18, 2017, the two teams set off from Shanghai, the “Magic City,” and one of the “Heavens on Earth,” meeting at Xingshu Valley in Tonglu, Zhejiang. Though the road wasn’t long, the poor road conditions led to a nearly six-hour journey to reach our destination.

Kick-starting the Fun Mode

 

After a lunch and a brief rest, the afternoon saw the start of team-building activities. Ten teams were formed with mixed genders, all entering with their flags, slogans, and war chants. Each team had a leader, an assistant, and a security guard. The games were one-on-one matches or team collaborations, listening to instructions, seeking help, and putting cooperation first for a collective win.

The warm-up for the water fight began, and off we went, NiuMai brothers! With speed and passion, not even buckets of cold water could cool us down. The two participants in the image—already middle-aged men—showed a different side of themselves compared to their usual image.

After a thrilling water fight, it was time to calm down and work together. Five major teams collaborated to create a masterpiece, mixing colors and applying ink, all coming together to form a large mural that represents NiuMai, and all of you, our brilliant masterpiece. As night fell, the BBQ feast began. The focus wasn’t just on what was grilled, but also on the skills acquired in grilling, and the various “grilling expressions” born from the team. With the fire still burning, the evening sky grew darker, and the peaceful ambiance of the valley made the starlit sky above mesmerizing. A bonfire party kicked off with everyone gathering, holding hands, dancing, and enjoying the youthful rhythm, while the ‘tough girls’ displayed their martial arts moves, and the ‘princesses’ became queens. Laughter and joy filled the air.

The early autumn night was serene and cool. Everyone was tired but content as they fell asleep, enveloped by the quiet night.

On the morning of August 19, 2017, the tranquil and picturesque morning of the Fuchun River was the calm before the storm. After yesterday’s warm-up, it was time to start the serious water fight. The raft is ready, and we are set for battle!

The action shifted from static to dynamic. The water guns—single and double-barrelled—were powerful, with range proportional to arm strength. The men, full of energy, attacked from all angles, and the whole raft turned into a soaking wet mess in just a few seconds.

One brave warrior on the raft launched an attack, only to be surrounded by the others. Water flew from all directions, and it was impossible to block or catch the intense splashing. After a thrilling battle, everyone was soaked, but the fun was unforgettable. Some, despite being drenched, couldn’t resist trying their luck with shrimp catching—enjoying the moment just as much!

The activities of this Tonglu trip lasted two days and one night. Perhaps, for people from the city, accustomed to high efficiency, the rural mountain environment and the activities were not initially familiar or appealing. But to step away from work and embark on this rare group excursion is indeed a precious experience! During the boring drive, we could chat more, engage in mental games, appreciate the scenery along the way, or even experience the unique mindset of a group stuck in traffic. Maybe, the not-so-delicious food and not-so-clean conditions have instead become a unique part of the memory. What we care about is that we didn’t just work together, but also laughed, played, and shared our feelings as we chased our common dreams.
